Directions: It is recommended to perform a pacth test 24 hour before a full face application.
This night oil-serum provides medium strength retinoic acid and is not recommended to clients who have never used retinoids before. However, if you still decide give this product a tryt, do take it slow and buffer extensively. A buffering technique is combining retinoids with a rich moisturiser to dilute the active and allow your skin to adjust. Ideally you would use our Skin rehab rich cream as it has been specifically formulated to help with the side effects of retinoic acid. A Niacinamide based serum such as our Hydration booster serum would be wonderful addition to layer under the oil and cream.
Remember not use this oil more than once or twice a week for the first few weeks. After scaling and irritation have subsided you can apply more often.
After cleansing apply a few drops of our Hydration Booster Serum for an optimum skin preparation. Wait a few minutes till the serum has sunk in before applying a thick layer of Skin rehab rich. Finish with an application of a single pump of Retinal oil. Massage gently, until fully absorbed. Avoid lip and eye area.
Side effects: Retinoids promote fast skin cell turnover so it is normal for your skin to experience some breakouts during the first couple of weeks as some bumps and cysts are brought up to the surface. This is commonly called "purging". This shouldn't last longer than a normal skin cycle of about 28 days. Other common reactions in the first few weeks of use is redness, stinging, scaling and dryness. Do not give up too early discouraged by tthese reactions. Remember that these are only temporary. Once your skin adjusts you will only reap the benefits of this brilliant active. The main challenge when using retinoids is to keep your skin sufficiently moisturised. Use a rich face cream a few times a day to keep up with the fast skin shedding.
At 0.05% concentration Retinaldehyde is as effective as 0.05% retinoic acid for the treatment of photoaging. In comparison retinol is 20 times less potent than tretinoin. Like all non-prescription retinoids, both Retinaldehyde and Retinol have to be first converted by skin enzymes to the only active form of Vitamin A (aka Retinoic Acid) before they can start working their rejuvenating magic.
Here’s the sequence of the conversion process: Retinyl palmitate → Retinol → Retinaldehyde → Retinoic Acid (Tretinoin)
The closer on this cascade a compound is to Retinoic Acid, the more readily it can be converted, and the more effective it becomes.
Caution: Do not use while pregnant or breastfeeding. Use at night only. Do not use on damp skin as your skin is not able to distribute the active equally and you may experience more redness and burning in certain areas. Always blot dry before application of each layer.
Always wear an SPF protection the following day. As with all our products we recommend a patch test 24 hours prior to use. For external use only. While it is normal to experience some irritation and peeling the first few weeks of use, if you notice any adverse reactions stop using immediately. Do not use in the same routine with acids.

Olive Squalane - Similar to the skin’s sebum, squalane is one of the best natural emollients. It penetrates skin faster than any other oil, making it a great carrier for other actives. Squalane is also an antioxidant, prevents UV damage and the formation of age spots, promotes cell growth and is an antibacterial.
Hazelnut Oil - This is one of our favourite oils on the market. Hazelnut has one of the highest vitamin E contents of all the carrier oils. High vitamin E content means hazelnut is ultra moisturizing and slow to go rancid. It’s also very softening to the skin and even has mild UV blocking properties. Hazelnut oil is best known for its astringent characteristics. It is a drier feeling oil due to its polyphenol and flavonoid concentration; it also absorbs quite fast. This combination makes hazelnut oil fantastic for oily skin types because it helps to balance the natural oils on your skin. The antibacterial components also aid in improving the appearance of blemishes over time.
Bisabolol - German Chamomile or Candeia tree derived this extract is extremely soothing and calming to irritated skin. it is not an essential oil!
Paracress Flower Extract (in caprylic/capric triglyceride) - Recent studies have suggested that Spilanthes Acmella extract has the ability to stimulate the production of collagen and enhance the penetration of other ingredients used in the formulation. It has been clinically tested to target the loss of skin firmness and appearance of deep wrinkles.
Non GMO Vitamin E - Powerful antioxidant; protects against oxidative damage; provides photo protection in combination with vitamin C.
0.05% Retinaldehyde - Retinoic acid is the true hero ingredient when it comes to battling signs of aging. It possesses proven ability to lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduce the appearance of large pores and refine skin's texture like nothing else. Retinal is the closest you can get to retinoic acid without a prescription. It is a heavy lifter when it comes to tackling breakouts, pigmentation, rough skin and wrinkles. Please follow our directions for use.
Ubiquinone (Co-enzyme Q10) - Ubiquinone represents an endogenously synthesised lipid‐soluble antioxidant which is crucial for cellular energy production but is diminished with age and under the influence of external stress factors in skin. Studies results demonstrate that stressed skin benefits from the topical Q10 treatment by reduction of free-radicals and an increase in antioxidant capacity.
