Directions: It is important to perform a patch test 24 hour before a full face application. This night oil-serum provides a medium strength retinoic acid so we recommend you to take it slow and buffer extensively to avoid irritation.
Caution: Do not use while pregnant or breastfeeding. Use at night only. Do not use on damp skin as your skin is not able to distribute the active equally and you may experience irritation in patches. Always blot dry before application of each layer. Always wear an SPF protection the following day. As with all our products we recommend a patch test 24 hours prior to use. For external use only.

A buffering technique is combining retinoids with a rich moisturiser to dilute the active and allow your skin to adjust. Ideally you would use one of our Ceramide rich creams - rehab light or rich which have been specifically formulated to help with the side effects of retinoids.
After cleansing apply a few drops of our Hydration Booster Serum for an optimum skin preparation. Wait a few minutes till the gel has sunk in before applying a layer of Skin rehab rich or light cream. Finish with a few drops of Retinal oil. Massage gently, until fully absorbed. Avoid lip, nose,eye and neck area.
Side effects: Retinoids promote fast skin cell turnover so it is normal for your skin to experience some breakouts during the first couple of weeks as some bumps and cysts are brought up to the surface. This is commonly called "purging". This shouldn't last longer than a normal skin cycle of about 28 days. Other common reactions in the first few weeks of use are redness and dryness. Do not give up too early discouraged by what you see. Remember it’s only temporary. Once your skin has retinised you will only reap the benefits of this brilliant active. The main challenge with retinoids is to keep skin sufficiently moisturised. Apply a rich face cream a few times a day to keep up with the fast skin shedding.
At 0.05% concentration Retinaldehyde is as effective as 0.05% retinoic acid for the treatment of photoaging. In comparison retinol is 20 times less potent than tretinoin.
Like all non-prescription retinoids, both Retinaldehyde and Retinol have to be first converted by skin enzymes to the only active form of Vitamin A (aka Retinoic Acid) before they can start working their rejuvenating magic. Here’s the sequence of the conversion process:
Retinyl palmitate → Retinol → Retinaldehyde → Retinoic Acid (Tretinoin)
The closer on this cascade a compound is to Retinoic Acid, the more readily it can be converted, and the more effective it becomes.

Hazelnut Oil - This is one of our favourite oils on the market. Hazelnut has one of the highest vitamin E contents of all the carrier oils. Hazelnut oil is best known for its astringent characteristics. It is a drier feeling oil due to its polyphenol and flavonoid concentration; it also absorbs quite fast.
